Job title: Coordinator of the African American Roundtable

Job description: The Coordinator provides theological expertise, programmatic and convening support, and ministerial services to the African American Roundtable by: coordinating programs and events of the Roundtable, facilitating community building among African American Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) persons active in various faith traditions, convening African American religious and lay leaders to discuss strategies for education, outreach and social change, in order to positively impact the lives of African American LGBT persons through religious research, advocacy, leadership development, training and community building.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Publicly representing the Roundtable,
  • Providing theological expertise to support the work of the Roundtable,
  • Maintaining regular communications with actual and potential constituents of the Roundtable,
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of Roundtable events and programming,
  • Convening and facilitating periodic meetings of Roundtable participants,
  • Providing ministerial services in Roundtable events and to bible studies and spirituality groups for community building among African American LGBT persons,
  • Maintaining the African American Roundtable section of the CLGS website,
  • Developing and publishing appropriate web-based and print resources for clergy and laity,
  • Developing and coordinating workshops,
  • Where feasible, conducting research on spiritualities and culture in African American contexts with specific relevance for LGBT persons,
  • Where feasible, assisting in fundraising for the Roundtable.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to relate well to members of African American religious communities.
  • Familiarity with LGBT issues and experiences in African American contexts.
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in theology and/or ministry, though a master’s degree in theology or ministry is preferred.
  • Two to three years of successful teaching and ministerial experience and/or training.

Hours per week: 10
Date job is to begin: 1 October, 2008
Preferred workdays: Negotiable
