Our Stories
Working and advocating for the right to marry involves much more than political strategy and religious rhetoric. Marriage is about us, about our stories of love and commitment, stories about building and nurturing families. Marriage is also about the wide range of committed relationships and families that don't always "fit" in the standard cultural category of "marriage" yet still deserve to be honored and recognized as life-giving.
This portion of the CLGS Marriage Project is dedicated to putting human faces on this political and religious issue by offering just a sample of our stories. Some of these stories will be about civil unions and traditional liturgical rites; others will remind us of the vast diversity of relationships and commitments in our various communities. In any case, these are the stories behind the highly-charged political discourse in our country about marriage, stories to remind us about what's at stake in in this debate.
