The John J. McNeill and Charles Chiarelli Gay and Lesbian Liberation Collection

The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry (CLGS) is the proud recipient of the John J. McNeill and Charles Chiarelli Gay and Lesbian Liberation Archives.

john-mcneill1McNeill was an early and prophetic voice in the LGBT religious movement, and his 1976 book, The Church and the Homosexual, was a pioneering work which argues that the Bible does not condemn homosexuality. In this book, McNeill also called upon leaders within the Roman Catholic Church to dialogue with its lesbian and gay members.
